Sports medicine pain and injuries can affect almost any part of the body, therefore it is important to find care that you can trust, and experts that have expertise in treating the musculoskeletal system as a whole.

Advanced sports medicine care

Our board-certified and fellowship-trained sports medicine providers can treat all types of sports and musculoskeletal injuries spanning the range from non-surgical such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection therapy to those requiring surgery. The majority of our surgeries are performed in our outpatient surgical center, so you can return to the comfort of your home as soon as it is safe to do so.

Athletic training

Our licensed athletic trainers are committed to helping athletes across all activities and ages prevent injuries and enhance athletic performance. In working with parents, physicians, coaches and students, we collaborate with teams to teach injury prevention and promote wellness. We also provide athletic training services at most high schools in North Central Florida part of our leading regional community outreach program.

Physical therapy and rehabilitation

Rebuilding back to your full abilities, plus enhancing your abilities is the goal for our physical therapists. At our open, 10,000-square-foot gym dedicated to physical therapy, we will help you regain strength and muscle, and teach injury prevention. We also offer medical massage services and aqua therapy in our 1,000-square-foot in-ground aquatic exercise pool.

Para athlete treatment

Our sports medicine providers are specially trained to treat para athletes and provide an elevated level of care to these patients. Very few physicians specialize in treatment for para athletes, however our sports medicine physicians are and have been team doctors for various paralympic teams and understand that true multidisciplinary care is vital in treating para athletes.

ORTHOcare

At UF Health ORTHOcare we offer walk-in orthopaedic care for sprains, strains and minor fractures. Get orthopaedic care, when you need it. ORTHOcare is open days and evenings, 7 days a week.

Radiology services

The radiologists who work with both orthopaedics and physical medicine and rehabilitation are experts in reading scans of the musculoskeletal system. From X-rays, MRIs, ultrasounds and other imaging modalities, we will accurately diagnose your condition or injury.

UF Health Sports Performance Center

At our sports performance center, we focus on improving your athletic performance, preventing injury and improving your overall physical ability. The UF Health Sports Performance Center is one of the premier performance programs in the U.S. that combines medical care and sports science expertise, using the kinetic chain approach, whole person assessment, physiological and biomechanical assessment to help individuals and their care teams identify musculoskeletal and metabolic issues, reduce injury risk and improve performance in active people of all ages and sport backgrounds.

Specialty clinics and centers

As a part of our Sports Performance Center, the UF Health Running Medicine Clinic and the UF Health Throwing Clinic provide unique, expert care to runners of all levels and throwing athletes, respectively. Both clinics advance the performance, health and safety of athletes with all body styles, ages and experience levels. Additionally, patients work with our physiatrists to prevent injury and optimize form even among the most complex cases.

Concussions

Through our extensive athletic training program and our annual Heat, Heart, Head symposium, our primary goal is to educate student and professional athletes on how to prevent or minimize brain injury risks. With sports popularly played in North Central Florida including soccer, football, ice hockey and lacrosse, among others with high concussion risk, our sports medicine experts offer the most advanced multidisciplinary treatments for head injuries. Our physiatrists, orthopaedic sports medicine physicians and neurologists work together to offer the best care possible.

Hand, Shoulder, Elbow and Upper Extremity

Experts in our hand and upper extremity division are equipped to treat all areas of the limb, from the shoulder to the fingertips. Their highly specialized services include restoring hand and wrist function, treating shoulder, elbow and rotator cuff injuries, and performing complete elbow and shoulder replacements. Our surgical and non-surgical experts will determine the best treatment course based on the extent of your injury. Treatments may include physcial therapy, injections or if needed surgical options.
