Description

All College of Medicine faculty are welcome!

Graduate Medical Education (GME) is expensive. Medicare spends $9.8 billion, Medicaid spends $3.9 billion and the VA spends $1.4 billion to support GME. Hospitals, medical schools, states and local government spend money as well. With the variable funding streams and the number of entities involved financing GME is complicated as is the political climate surrounding the nations physician workforce. This talk will be an overview of the current state of GME funding and a discussion of some of the ideas being debated about GME support.

Objectives:

  • Be able to describe the current state of GME funding on a national level
  • Understand some of the current proposals to reform GME funding
  • Gain insight to the local funding streams for GME
