John Pastor oversees News & Publications for UF&Shands, the University of Florida Academic Health Center. He and his team tell the stories surrounding the research, education and patient care activities of the most comprehensive Academic Health Center in the Southeast. Pastor entered journalism as the sports editor of the Monongahela Daily Herald and quickly became the managing editor of its sister newspaper, the Democrat Messenger in Waynesburg, Pa. He left Pennsylvania for Morgantown, W.Va., where he worked as news editor for The Dominion Post. In Florida, he was the opinion editor of the Vero Beach Press Journal and the editor of the Leesburg Daily Commercial. With national and state honors for editorial and news writing, he joined UF in 2002 as the public relations director for the Genetics Institute and the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute.
Directs the UF&Shands news program and oversees media relations, news releases and external publications.
