Cathy Silloway, LCSW, APHSW-C
Cathy Silloway, LCSW, APHSW-C is the Licensed Clinical Social Worker on the palliative consult service at UF Health. She holds 34 years of medical social work experience, including over 20 years of experience in the fields of palliative and hospice care. She also worked for 12 years at a community hospital in the role of case manager.
Cathy earned her bachelor’s degree in social work from Kean University in Union, NJ and obtained her master’s in social work at Hunter College School of Social Work in New York City. She held the Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Social Work Certification from 2009 until 2019.
Cathy is a member of Social Work Hospice & Palliative Network (SWHPN). She was a member of their Item Writing Committee which developed the nation’s first evidence-based certification exam for social workers in palliative and hospice care. She has held the Advanced Palliative Hospice Social Worker-Certified (APHSW-C) since 2019.
Cathy’s many years of hospice experience were completed as the clinical social worker serving patients and families at the Haven Hospice E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville, FL. Cathy’s clinical expertise includes grief and bereavement counseling, advance directive teaching, and patient case management. She has also been an educator to families and patients on advance care planning as well as end of life topics, which include understanding end of life signs and symptoms, the importance of finding closure and acceptance at the end of life.
