Urology is a surgical subspecialty that involves the diagnosis and treatment of disorders involving the urinary, genital and reproductive tract. This includes both male and female as well as adult and pediatric patients. Management can be either surgical or medical or both.

Our team of urologists is highly trained and experienced in treating a wide range of urological conditions, from the most complex and advanced to everyday issues. We are committed to staying up-to-date on the latest research and treatments so that we can offer our patients the best possible care.

A urologic surgeon specializes in the careful diagnosis and treatment of all diseases of the urinary tract. We also have expert urologic specialists that treat conditions across the spectrum of urological care. Our urologists help participate in individual patient management and disease management. This can be either chronic (long term) or acute (short term).

Additionally, we pride ourselves on offering patients multidisciplinary care. We know that when we work with multiple specialties such as medical oncology, radiation oncology, endocrinology, nephrology among others, that we can better treat the whole person, not just the problem.

The genitourinary system includes:

• Adrenal glands

• Renal pelvis
• Ureters

• Penis, testes and scrotum

The kidneys act as a filtering unit for the body’s blood, excreting waste products and excess water as urine. The urine travels from the renal pelvis of the kidney, down the ureter and is stored in the bladder, to be later expelled out of the body through the prostate (in men) and urethra.

UF Health Urology faculty have received advanced fellowship training in all subspecialty areas of urology. They offer the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. Our commitment is to provide individualized care based on each patient’s unique presenting urologic condition no matter the degree of complexity.

The urinary tract consists of the kidneys and the adjacent adrenal glands, ureters, bladder, male prostate, urethra and male testicles. Disease types can include infections, inflammation, cancer and acquired or congenital defects that affect these organs.

In addition to providing care for complex urologic conditions, we also offer urology services for everyday issues. These may include:

• Erectile dysfunction
• Urinary Incontinence, or overactive bladder
• Kidney stones
• Male infertility
• Prostate problems such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate
• Urinary tract infection
• Urinary stones
• Urologic cancer including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer and testicular cancer
• Vasectomy and vasectomy reversals

For all of these conditions, we offer advanced robotic surgery and laparoscopic urologic surgery when appropriate. We also offer thermal ablation, clinical trials, pediatric urology, female urology and reconstructive surgery and sexual medicine.
