Services and conditions we treat

The Pediatric Renal Program provides diagnosis and treatment for infants, children and adolescents with all forms of acute and chronic kidney disease. There are approximately 3600 outpatient visits and 350 admissions each year. These include infants, children and adolescents with a variety of bladder and kidney problems, patients with hypertension and electrolyte abnormalities and the assessment of pregnant women carrying a fetus with a renal disease or abnormality noted on ultrasound.

Physicians across the entire tri-state area call for consultations, as do the faculty of the University of Florida Health Science Center who need joint consultative care of the complex pediatric problems.

Dialysis program

The Pediatric Dialysis Program at UF Health consists of an expert team of physicians, nurses, nutritionists, social workers, child life and pediatric specialists who assist children with chronic renal failure.

Our team works with families to provide medical education and individualized therapy for each child and provide guidance on behavioral and developmental issues. We also assist in arranging transport and visiting nursing services.

Our team now provides its renal patients with plasmapheresis. Plasmapheresis is the process of separating cells or unwanted components from a patient’s blood and returning the desired components, along with the replacement fluids, to the patient.

Kidney transplant program

The Kidney Transplant Program at UF Health is closely integrated with the Pediatric Nephrology Program and offers a continuum of services, evaluates children who are potential candidates for transplantation and manages the care of children who have received transplanted kidneys. The multidisciplinary staff works as a team to provide individualized care to your child and includes physicians and multidisciplinary teams of specially trained coordinators, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, physical therapists and psychologists who are experts in transplant kidney care.
