Allergy
Allergies are the immune system's over-reaction to compounds in the environment. Most familiar is hay fever or allergic rhinitis, causing congestion, runny noses and watery eyes. Responses to allergens may include hives, swelling, cramps, nausea, fainting, or dizziness.
An allergen is anything that triggers your immune system, causing it to create histamines or other antibodies. People can suffer from allergies to pollen, mold and mildew, insects, dust mites, animals, and types of food. It's not uncommon to have multiple allergies.
UF Health offers multiple treatment options for patients suffering from allergies. In addition to a wide range of tests and procedures, we can recommend treatment options to help you lessen the symptoms of most allergic reactions. An allergist can test you for allergies and recommend the most effective treatment.
