My areas of focus

My training in clinical psychology was followed by specialization in rehabilitation psychology, where the focus is on the empowerment of persons with limitations and disabilities toward resumption of a full and rewarding life in spite of physical and/or cognitive limitations, societal barriers, and prejudice. This philosophy enriches all the clinical work I do. This work has allowed me to fully realize that the traumatic acquisition of a disability may reduce the abilities of those patients. But it also has allowed me to realize that every person is severely limited by our shared human nature. Many other abilities can compensate for those that are lost with injury and age. Our belief in youthful independence is a delusion that we will discover if only we live so long. In discovering that delusion, we can also discover the wealth we have in human interdependence.
