The Effect of Obesity on Immune Responses to Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine

The purpose of this study is to investigate how obesity affects the immune system response to the Pneumococcal Polysaccharide Vaccine, an approved and already tested vaccine. This is a 28 day trial to observe if the immune system of participants with a BMI>30 respond any differently than the immune system of participants with a BMI 22-25 in response to pneumococcal vaccination. Participants will be screened to determine eligibility. All will receive questionnaires to complete, the Pneumovax 23 vaccine, and 2 blood draws.
