UF to offer free vehicle checks for older drivers

Older drivers interested in learning how to fit more comfortably and safely in their vehicles are invited to visit CarFit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Senior Recreation Center, 5701 NW 34th St.

Trained students from the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions’ department of occupational therapy will lead drivers through a 12-point checklist with their vehicles, recommend personal vehicle adjustments and adaptations, and offer community resources and activities that could make personal vehicles “fit” better or enhance driver safety. An occupational therapist will be available to provide information on how to maintain and strengthen driving health.

The event is sponsored by the UF Department of Occupational Therapy and hosted by the Senior Recreation Center. National sponsors include the American Society on Aging, the AARP, AAA and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
