'Leap Day' babies celebrate birthdays at Shands Hospital for Children

Courtney Walden and Dylan Ivey gave birth to leap year baby, Shylah Sincere Ivey, at 2:10 a.m. The couple have decided to celebrate their daughter's birthday on March 1.

"Leap Day" babies only come around every four years, often leaving parents with a decision to make — what day do you celebrate the child's birthday during the three years when there is no Feb. 29? The choice traditionally falls to the day before or the day after — Feb. 28 or March 1. And so it went with two of the babies born at Shands Hospital for Children at UF on Wednesday. Leap year baby Allison Elizabeth Evans, daughter of Jonathan and Samantha Evans, was born at 5:54 a.m. Feb. 29 and her "birthday" on most years will be Feb. 28. But Shylah Sincere Ivey, born the daughter of Courtney Walden and Dylan Ivey at 2:10 a.m., will celebrate on March 1. Happy Birthdays all around!
