Critical Care Medicine Specialist, Pulmonologist (Lung Specialist)
I cannot imagine a more fulfilling career than one that helps lead people to healthier and happier lives. As an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Florida Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine, I specialize in complex lung diseases, including severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, nontuberculous mycobacteria, bronchiectasis, pneumonia, lung nodules and pleural effusions. Some procedures I currently use are bronchoscopy, chest tubes and thoracentesis.
I am board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. My focus is on nontuberculous mycobacteria. I evaluate and treat this complex pathology following cultures, drug monitoring and side effects while accompanying patients during this sometimes difficult process. I also treat patients with severe asthma that is not controlled with common inhalers. I provide them with advanced therapy for asthma involving biologic agents (monoclonal antibodies) to help control their disease.
My journey started in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I grew up engaged athletically, playing volleyball, and academically, earning my medical degree from Universidad de Buenos Aires. Thereafter, I relocated to Pennsylvania where I completed an internal medicine internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center and completed both an internal medicine residency and pulmonary medicine fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital. Then, I moved to Florida to complete a critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Florida.
I am currently the UF’s Pulmonary Function Tests Lab medical director, and I am particularly interested in improving exercise performance by pulmonary physiologic testing, including pulmonary function testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and sleep studies.
I maintain an active lifestyle by swimming and hiking. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
