Leandra Woolnough, MD, MSCS

My name is Leandra Woolnough and I am an assistant professor and pediatric rheumatologist at the University of Florida. I chose a career in pediatric rheumatology because of the opportunity to make contributions to my field through research and improve the lives of children with rheumatic disease.

I earned an undergraduate degree from Johns Hopkins University in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. I returned to my hometown of Dallas, TX to earn my medical degree at UT Southwestern Medical Center. I completed my residency training in General Pediatrics at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas and stayed in Dallas to complete my fellowship training in Pediatric Rheumatology. As a junior faculty member at UT Southwestern, I earned a Master of Science in Clinical Science and also received the Clinical Scholars Award. I joined the faculty as an assistant professor at the University of Florida Division of Pediatric Rheumatology in 2018.

I am the Program Director of the UF Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship. On a national level, I am active in education, research, and advocacy. I have training in using musculoskeletal ultrasound. I have participated in efforts to define the role of ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of children with rheumatic disease. As a clinical researcher, I collaborate with musculoskeletal radiology, physical medicine & rehabilitation, healthcare equity and community engagement. Through my clinical work and research efforts, I am striving to improve the health of children with rheumatic disease.

When I am not at work, I enjoy running and spending time with my family.
