Biography

Dr. Gregory Janelle serves as the Interim Chair for the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. His specialty is in anesthesiology with clinical sub-specialties in adult and pediatric cardiothoracic anesthesia and works in the divisions of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Congenital Heart Anesthesiology.

He completed his internship in medicine and critical care, a residency in anesthesiology, and a fellowship in cardiovascular anesthesiology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine. He received both his bachelor’s in medical science and medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 1994.

Dr. Janelle is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), the National Board of Medical Examiners, and the National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography. He serves on several committees for the American Society of Anesthesiology, is on the Board of Directors of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, writes questions for the NBE’s Basic Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Examination, and serves as a Part 2 Examiner for the ABA.

Dr. Janelle earned his Physician Certification for the Space Shuttle Program from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in Cape Canaveral in 1997, and has been re-certified many times since. He served as part of the Medical Support Team for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration for many missions, including serving as a Team Leader for Mission STS-131 and Mission STS 135.
