The Adult Endocrinology Clinics take care of patients with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and secondary diabetes. In addition, our providers see a variety of disorders affecting the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pituitary glands.

Adult diabetes educators

Amy Aponick, MPH, RD, LD/N, CDE

Amy has been with the UF Diabetes Institute since winter 2008. She is a Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist, and a Certified Diabetes Educator. She provides diabetes education to outpatients in the Departments of Adult and Pediatric Endocrinology and is a dietitian in the Pediatric Lipid Disorders and Obesity Clinic. In addition to clinics, Amy also provides education to patients in the Diabetes Self-Management Education Program. She works closely with undergraduate and graduate students, coordinating student internships with the department. Amy was named the 2009 Emerging Dietetics Leader by the Florida Dietetic Association.

Amber Wilhoit RD, LD/N, CDE, CPT

Amber is a Registered Dietitian, Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist, Certified Diabetes Educator and a Certified Personal Trainer. She provides diabetes education to outpatients in the Adult Endocrinology department; and through the Diabetes Self Management Education Program. She enjoys crew, gardening, running and most importantly being ‘Mommy’ to her three children. Amber enjoys helping people find simple ways eat healthier and sneak activity into their busy lives.

Lori Blanton, CHES

Lori graduated from the University of Florida in 2009 with a B.S. in Health Education and Behavior. She has been a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) since October 2009. She joined the Diabetes Self-Management Education team in August 2009 and has been a DSME instructor since June of 2011. In addition to her classroom teaching and curriculum design responsibilities, she provides individual diabetes education to clinic patients and acts as an internship coordinator for the DSME Health Education internship program. Lori played an integral role in the establishment of the UF chapter of Students with Diabetes, which she continues to facilitate. Her professional interests include diabetes education, classroom technology, effective curriculum design, and providing support for people living with diabetes.

Pediatric clinics

The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at UF Health is internationally recognized with a rich history of providing leadership in patient care, education, research and advocacy. The division’s mission is to improve the lives of children and families affected by diabetes and endocrine disorders.

Our division is ranked number #14 in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports due to our expertise in providing both top notch clinical care and access to cutting edge research. We have the the nation’s largest program for Prader-Willi syndrome and clinics for a wide range of metabolic and endocrine disorders, such as obesity. Faculty members have helped establish camps for children with diabetes and are advocates for better nutrition in schools.

The University of Florida's Department of Pediatric Endocrinology provides a variety of clinics for children, teens and young adults with type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders (high cholesterol or triglycerides) and obesity. Please note that these clinics require a referral from the patient's primary care provider.
