Botox® Cosmetic

Description

Botox® Cosmetic is an injectable product FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow's feet and forehead lines look better in adults.

Why the procedure is performed

Botox® Cosmetic temporarily reduces the underlying muscle activity that causes moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines in adults.

Risks

Temporary muscular paralysis, allergy to injected solution, pain at the injection site, headaches, infection, temporary eyelid droop, nausea, need for further injections, bruising.

Before the procedure

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and fish oil one week prior to procedure to minimize bruising.

After the procedure

  • Remain upright for at least four hours. You may recline, but do not lay completely flat.
  • Avoid make-up for 12 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous aerobic exercise for up to 24 hours.
  • Do not massage or apply pressure to the injection sites for at least 12 hours. You may gently wash your face and pat it dry.
  • Avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for at least 24 hours. If you develop a headache, you may use Tylenol.
  • Botox will take effect 7-10 days after injection. Optimal results are noted at two weeks.
  • Please speak with your provider before scheduling a laser treatment, chemical peel or any other procedure that may involve the treatment site.

Outlook (Prognosis)

Results last up to four months.
